Presidential/NASS elections: Accord collapses structure for Obi, as Enugu AAC adopts LP presidential candidate
Accord Party has endorsed the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the Saturday, February 25 Presidential elections, Peter Obi, for President.
The move also follows the decision by the African Action Congress (AAC) Governorship candidate in Enugu State, Kene Ogbodo to adopt the same LP candidate for president.
The Accord Party in its address, Friday, to Obi stated that it was willing to join forces with the LP in delivering the mandate of LP flag-bearer and the party to win the presidential seat.
The party pledged to join the Labour Party’s structure across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria to deliver the constituencies to Obi during the presidential election, further stating that it would engage in massive mobilisation by deploying its party members, canvassers, and voters nationwide to vote for Obi.
The party set a target of delivering five million votes to the Labour Party.
The endorsement of Peter Gregory Obi by the Accord Party is significant as it brings together two political parties with a long-standing history in Nigerian politics.
The Accord Party was founded in 2006 and has had its candidates serve in legislative positions at the state and federal levels.
The party has a strong presence across the 35 states of the federation and has been known to deliver their constituencies at every election.
When contacted, Rev Isaac Adeniyi, the Accord Chairman confirmed the development adding that “they believe Obi has the chances to win this (presidential) election”.
Meanwhile, speaking to newsmen, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Enugu, Kene Ogbodo, said the party has endorsed Peter Obi for the forthcoming election scheduled for Saturday, February 25, instead of its Chairman and Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
The AAC Governorship candidate rejected the party’s presidential candidate, Sowore and endorsed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP).
In the official statement issued during a press briefing in Enugu, Wednesday, he said “Obi might not have the full answer but he can actually start healing the wounds of the country.
“He is a man that has changed the political landscape in Nigeria, dismantled APC and PDP.
“Members of Action Congress here in Enugu hereby endorse Peter Obi instead of our presidential candidate, Sowore who has no pathway to the presidency. We have dumped his aspiration
“Sowore stands for one man band, he is inexperienced, he should continue with his activism.
“We make sure that undecided voters will come out to support him.
“We have nothing to do with Atiku and we are not supporting Tinubu.
“I am still in the governorship race, so we have nothing to do with LP in the State, but we are supporting Peter Gregory Obi for President.”
