
Price of cooking gas increases by 7.57% in June – NBS

Average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas, has increased by 7.57 per cent on a month-on-month basis, from N3,921.35 recorded in May 2022 to N4,218.38 in June 2022.

This is contained in the National Bureau of Statistics Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) Price Watch report (June 2022).

The NBS further said on a year-on-year basis, price of gas rose by 103.92% from N2,068.69 in June 2021 to N4,218.38 in June 2022.
On state profile analysis, Adamawa recorded the highest average price for refilling a 5kg cooking gas with N4,650.00, followed by Gombe with N4,566.67 and Niger with N4,540.00.
Meanwhile, Zamfara recorded the lowest average price with N3,700.00, followed by Yobe and Kano with N3,820.00 and N3,875.00 respectively.
In addition, the North-Central recorded the highest average retail price for refilling a 5kg cooking gas with N4,378.95, followed by the North-East with N4,301.48, while the North-West recorded the lowest with N3,994.57, according to the report.
Meanwhile, NBS has also disclosed that the average retail price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), known as diesel, paid by consumers increased by 202.67 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
In its AGO Price Watch (June 2022) report, the NBS said the price of diesel rose from a lower cost of N242.43 per litre recorded in the corresponding month of June last year (2021) to a higher cost of N733.78 per litre in June 2022.
Furthermore, the report indicates that “on a month-on-month basis, an increase of 9.34 per cent was recorded from N671.08 in the preceding month of May to an average of N733.78 in June 2022.
Looking at the variations in the state prices, the NBS said the top three states with the highest average price of the product in June 2022 include; Kwara (N800.00), Delta (N798.50) and Katsina (N786.36).
Furthermore, the top three lowest prices were recorded in Bauchi (N650.00), Yobe (N675.00) and Kogi (N678.00).
The Zonal representation of the average price of diesel shows that North-West has the highest price of N758.79 while North East has the lowest price of N715.00 when compared with other zones in the country.
