Primary school teacher in Niger allegedly defiles, infects 14 pupils with HIV/AIDS
A primary school teacher in Niger State has allegedly infected 14 pupils with the dreaded Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
The development occurred in Central Primary School, Karabonde, Borgu local government of Niger state.
The teacher identified as Alhaji Usman Galadima was initially arrested for allegedly defiling 14 female pupils of the school.
Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect is now with the Command after his arrest.
“Yes, we arrested the suspect and he is currently being investigated. The suspect is with the command over the allegations of sexual assault in his school,” said Abiodun.
The teacher who escaped from the community when the case blew open was finally apprehended after a manhunt launched by the police in collaboration with the community led to his arrest and subsequent transfer to Minna, the state capital for prosecution.
Reports indicate that apart from defiling the pupils, Galadima was also accused of infecting them with the dreaded HIV/AIDS.
Galadima, a Grade II teacher with the Central Primary School, has since been swiftly suspended by the school authorities, pending investigations. He is also currently under detention and being investigated by the SCID police headquarters, Minna.
Meanwhile, the Niger State Government has constituted a committee to investigate the alleged defilement of the 14 pupils. The committee is headed by the state Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Hanatu Jibrin Salihu.
Other members of the committee include; the Director, Child Right Protection Agency; the state Commissioner for Women Affairs; the state Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), among others.
