
Rivers State Administrator appoints new heads for civil service

The administrator for Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has announced appointment of new set of guards in the management of the state’s civil service systems.
Chief of Staff to Ibas announced the appointments in a statement released to the media early on Tuesday morning.

Ibas was appointed last week to govern the state after President Bola Tinubu imposed state of emergency in Rivers State, usurped control of the government of the state. The move by the president has since sparked a spate of public outcry and court actions by groups challenging the legality of the state’s government.
Following his assumption of duties, Ibas on Tuesday announced the appointment of new Head of Service (HOS) and a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) obviously to phase out the loyalists of the suspended Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State.
Former HOS, Dr. George Nwaeke, had just hours before the announcement of his replacement, resigned his position with immediate effect without citing any reasons.
Dr Nwaeke’s worked with suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Nma Ordu.
Ibas promptly accepted Dr Nweke’s resignation and thanked him for working with him in the past few days. He also wished him well in his future endeavors.
Ibas also announced the appointment of Dr. (Mrs.) Iyingi Brown, who is the Permanent Secretary for Welfare in the Office of the Head of Service in an acting capacity until a substantive Head of Service is named.
He congratulated Brown on her appointment and further announced appointment of Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new SSG.
“Prof. Worika’s distinguished career spans academia, international legal practice, and high-level policy advisory roles, making him uniquely qualified to support the Administrator in the onerous task of achieving Mr President’s mandate. His appointment takes immediate effect,” Ibas announced in a statement circulated Tuesday morning.
In pledging neutrality in the political crises that led to his appointment, Ibas declared his commitment to peace and stability in Rivers State.
