Rohr not sacked – NFF, admits possibility
Country’s football governing body, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has moved to clear the air on media reports concerning situation with the coach of the national team, the Super Eagles, German tactician, Gernot Rohr.
NFF, Thursday, dispelled the widespread reports claiming that it had already sacked coach Rohr, insisting there was no truth in the said reports, even as it further added that the German remains the gaffer of the national team, until the Board of the Federation sits and reaches a contrary decision.
Reports in the media claiming the sack of Rohr flooded media space, Thursday, as they claimed the German tactician has lost his job over unconvincing performance of the senor national team during the 2022 World Cup qualifying matches for Africa zone, which the country has already advanced to the final round of matches.
However, officials of the NFF have come out to put the records straight on the position of Rohr, as both Assistant Director, Media, Ademola Olajire and Super Eagles Media Officer, Femi Raji refuted the reports in separate reactions.
Olajire denied knowledge of the sacking of Rohr, as he disclosed that the coach can only be sacked after the board meeting of the NFF.
He said a signed statement will also be released confirming Rohr’s sack for authentication.
“I’m not aware of Rohr’s sack because there are procedures for doing things at the federation.
“Before such decision could be taken, there will be a meeting of the NFF board and a release issued to the public.
“As for now, I’m not aware of the sack.
“The online platform you claimed reported the story cannot announce his sack without confirmation from the NFF.”
On his part, Raji, said he is unaware of the development.
“I don’t know about Rohr’s sack,” he said.
Despite the denial by NFF officials, sources within the football house say the coach may not have been officially fired, but has been told to resign, a situation the German has also confirmed.
