SE anarchy: UNIZIK lecturer gunned down
Yet to be identified assailants on Tuesday trailed and killed an academic staff of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The victim identified as Professor Anthony Eze of the of Faculty of Education was shot by his assailants at his residence and in the full glare of horrified neighbours as he attempted to drive out of his house.
Eye witnesses who described the incident ruled out armed robbery as the bandits are said to have not attempted taking anything from the victim’s car.
The report has it that the assailants stormed the deceased’s residence in Awka in a Toyota Corolla sedan, chased after their target before shooting him at close range.
He said the deceased was reportedly pronounced dead at the General Hospital Amaku where he was rushed by neighbours after the tragic incident.
A resident of the area said the deceased attempted to flee on sighting the assailants as their Toyota Corolla pulled towards his house.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command was yet to receive report of the incident, but Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, UNIZIK, Chika Ene, confirmed the incident without giving details.
