Sen President Akpabio named lead ambassador for UNICAL@ 50 celebration

Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, the President of the 10th Senate has been named the lead ambassador for the University of Calabar at fifty celebrations.
Chairman of the UNICAL@50 planning committee, Prof Eyong Eyong disclosed this at the University of Calabar Council Lodge during the investiture of the Pro Chancellor DIG Udom Ekpo Udom (Rtd) as an ambassador of the institution.
Professor Eyong said the decision to name the Senate President as the lead ambassador is based on his pedigree and antecedents as an alumnus of the institution.
“This 50th Anniversary will be celebrated with a lead ambassador His Excellency Senator Dr. Senator Godswill Akpabio.
“He is the first among equals. The first to be executive governor, first to be minister and also first to be the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We believe that as Chairman of Council, you should lead the institution to formally present the flag to him.
“We also believe that as the number one citizen of the University today, you will be telling the world that my university is 50 years and it’s a Golden jubilee”, he said.
Professor Eyong also told the Pro Chancellor that the theme for the celebration which comes up in March 2025 is: ” Fifty Years of Impactful Knowledge and Service to Humanity”.
He added that the institution has indeed impacted on humanity and the celebration will be used to celebrate all those who have contributed to this.
Presenting the flag to the Pro Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Obi said she is honored to perform the task and also it’s the special grace of God for the Pro Chancellor to lead the institution at fifty.
In his reaction, the Pro Chancellor Udom Ekpo Udom said the institution has produced a number of great people particularly the Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio.
He pledged to join hands with the institution and ensure it moves to the next level
