Senate begins screening of ministerial nominees
The Senate on Monday began the screening of President Bola Tinubu‘s 28 ministerial nominees after Senator David Umahi, Deputy Majority Leader, moved a motion to that effect.
Abubakar Momoh from Edo state, a civil engineer and two-time member of the House of Representatives, has just finished his presentation and has been asked to “take a bow and go” because he is a former federal lawmaker.
“We want to appeal to you not to go there and close your door. You have to collaborate with us,” Godswill Akpabio, Senate President, told Momoh after asking him to “take a bow and go”.
Former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike is currently being screened.
The immediate past governor of Rivers, dressed in a bespoke dark-blue suit, has now mounted the podium.
Wike said he left Rivers Government House a hero and boasted of the 12 flyovers and other infrastructural projects he oversaw as governor.
“Even as he was speaking, you could see the passion and love he has for this country,” Akpabio said after Wike’s presentation.
The Senate President had on Thursday unveiled the 28-man ministerial nominees.
The letter containing the list of the ministerial nominees was personally delivered by the Chief of Staff and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Prominent people who made the list are the immediate past Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, and his colleague from Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai, and former Ebonyi Governor, David Umahi.
