Senator Bassey made this known while responding to recent political developments in the state and country.

He stressed that zoning is about equity and moral persuasion which is due his district but he is however prepared for the contest irrespective of zoning.

He also said his records in public office will speak for itself and that he has the blueprint to develop Cross River State.

Senator Bassey said: “Zoning is about equity and a moral persuasion, which I believe is now due to the South.

“But if other zones feel otherwise, I’m prepared to contest at the primaries and general elections against anybody.

“My record, qualification, capacity and unparalleled empowerment programmes within the State will speak for itself, regardless of the opposition.

“I have the State’s blueprint and I know where and how to turn the fortunes of our dear state around, if given the mandate”, Senator Bassey said.

He also said he welcomes contestants from other senatorial districts but will continue his consultations with all stakeholders.

The three Senatorial zones of the state have a gentleman’s agreement where power rotates within the three zones.

It commenced in 1999 with Governor Donald Duke from the south and subsequently power went to the Central district with Governor Liyel Imoke in 2007.

The present occupant of the Pelligrino Government House in Calabar is Governor Ben Ayade from the Northern district who took office in 2015 and power is widely expected to shift to the Southern district in 2023.
