Senator John Owan Enoh, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has pledged to address the plight of the displaced natives of Bakassi as governor of the state.
Enoh made this known when he took his campaign tour to the area and stressed that the plight of the people will not be trivialized as is the case with the current PDP administration in the state.
Enoh said: “With President Muhammadu Buhari at the federal level and myself as governor at the state level; backed up with other candidates of the party who are contesting to represent the people of Bakassi in both the National and State Assemblies, the concerns of Bakassi people will be better addressed.
“The current State Governor has failed Bakassi people and the state. He does not love the state nor its people. His concerns are his gains and personal interest. President Buhari has no hand over the plights of the Bakassi people, but as a leader, he can address it if we have a governor of the state and other representatives in the legislative levels, working in the right direction for the presidency to take necessary takes for the Bakassi people.
“The Bakassi issue may not have been properly addressed and it takes a governor that knows the right thing to do to address it. I am such, and I ask for your support and your vote to enable APC to serve the people of Bakassi and Cross River State as a whole”, Senator Enoh said.
In his remarks, HRM EtinyinEtimOkonEdet the Paramount Ruler of Bakassi decried the situation which the rights of the aborigines of Bakassi have been subjugated in the Federal Republic of Nigeria since their ancestral land was ceded to Cameroon for no faults of theirs and without their consent.
He said the people are pained by the actions of the federal government over the years and called on the President Buhari government to remember the people of Bakassi and made a proper statement on the issue.
“Bakassi People are indifferent at times like this because of what they have been made to pass through over the years.
“Bakassi People are pained, angry and endangered. We call on President Buhari to say and do something on the plights of Bakassi people. The federal government should remember Bakassi and make a proper statement”, the Monarch said.
He stressed that the call for a response from the presidency of the nation is urgent, otherwise what his “people may do will shock the whole country. We can even apply for Bakassi to be expunged from the constitution of Nigeria”.
However, he expressed confidence in the ability of APC candidates in the state and prayed for their success at the polls.
