Soludo’s order worsens Monday sit-at-home in Anambra
[From CHINEDU NWAFOR, Abakaliki]
Recent directive by Governor Chukwuma Soludo that workers must report to their duty posts unfailingly, Monday, has worsened the sit-at-home in the State.
Prior to Soludo’s order, the sit-at-home was gradually waning down.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had ordered sit-at-home every Monday in South East region to protest the arrest and detention of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
After some weeks, the IPOB leadership called off the sit-at-home order following appeals by leaders of the region.
Unfortunately, hoodlums have hijacked the sit-at-home order and have continued to enforce it every Monday in the region, making people to stay at home out of fear.
Following the development, Governor of Anambra State, Prof Soludo on assumption of office, had given order that all workers in the State’s employment must report for work on Mondays, unfailingly.
Part of Soludo’s directive reads: “Following the need to reposition the service for better performance and productivity, he has directed that all public servants should henceforth report at their places of work on Mondays as they do on other days.
“Consequently, absence from duty on Mondays or any other official workday without approval will be viewed as serious misconduct which will attract sanctions. This directive takes immediate effect”.
But the order has rather worsened the sit-at-home in the state.
On Monday, March 28, many schools that use to open on Mondays, sent circular to parents and guardians not to bring their wards to school.
Our Correspondent reports that, markets, financial institutions, filling stations, and others, were shut down while workers.
Also, the major roads across the state were deserted by motorists and travellers.
