Stocks gain N213bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.59%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Tuesday by 0.59% as the NGX-ASI increased to 66,770.97 from 66,382.14 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.28%.
Market capitalization increased by N0.21 billion to N36.54 trillion from N36.33 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N3.85 billion from N4.53 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 364,321,814 shares in 7,537 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 3,851,012,090.01, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, September 29), today’s data shows 24% improvement in volume, 15% decline in turnover, but 19% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 116 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 24 gainers and 27 losers. BUA Cement led the gainers with 9.94% share price appreciation closing at NGN 94.00 per share, followed by Beta Glass Company (+9.93%), FTN Cocoa Processors (+9.93%) and Oando (+9.55%).
On the losing side, Linkage Assurance came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 0.72 per share, followed by Computer Warehouse Group (-9.94%), Red Star Express (-9.86%) and Tantalizers (-9.38%).
Consolidated Hallmark Insurance recorded the highest volume of 71.5 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (33.2m), Oando (26.2m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (21.4m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 388.83 (0.59%) points to close at 66,770.97, representing a 1-week loss of 0.82%, a 4-week loss of 1.12%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.28%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.58%; -0.9% 1WK; +33.32% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (+0.17%; -0.95% 1WK; +43.51% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+3.53%; +0.38% 1WK; +14.72% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+1.46%; -0.42% 1WK; +28.61% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.5%; -0.9% 1WK; +59.69% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.31%; -3.88% 1WK; +60.06% YTD).
