Terrorists wreak havoc on Katsina, storm church, shoot pastor, abduct worshippers
Police Command in Katsina has confirmed that terrorists attacked and kidnapped up to five persons in Dantsauri Village in Kankara Local Government Area of the state, Sunday.
This is also as the State Government, Sunday, further confirmed that the terrorists attacked a church in the same local government area abducting up to 25 worshippers.
Katsina is the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, while Kankara local council was the scene of a major attack on a Government Secondary School where many students were abducted by terrorists.
On December 11, 2020, 344 secondary school boys were abducted from Kankara, while President Muhammadu Buhari was there on a visit.
Katsina Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident in a statement issued, Sunday, in Katsina.
“On January 15, 2023, at 7am, a distress call was received that terrorists, in their numbers, shooting sporadically, invaded Dantsauri Village in Kankara.
“The terrorists shot one Pastor Haruna on his hand and kidnapped five women who were preparing to go to church for Sunday service,” he said.
“The DPO of Kankara led a team of policemen to the village but, before his arrival, the terrorists had escaped with the victims.
“The injured pastor was evacuated to the General Hospital, Kankara, for treatment,” Isah said.
He said that the command for doing its best to apprehend the kidnappers.
Meanwhile, the state government has also confirmed that the terrorists had attacked the New Life For All Church situated in the Kankara Local Government Area, kidnapping at least 25 worshippers.
The terrorists said to be riding on motorcycles invaded the church at Dan-Tsauni Gidan Haruna Community in the early hours of Sunday when faithful were in church.
Senior Special Assistant to State Governor Aminu Masari on Christian Affairs, Ishaya Jurau who confirmed the attack disclosed that ‘security personnel are currently on top of the situation and are working tirelessly to rescue all the victims unhurt.’
