Three abducted workers of ex-President Obasanjo regain freedom
48 hours after they were abducted from their workplace in Ogun, the three staff of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo have now regained their freedom, according to the state Police Command.
The workers were abducted by unknown gunmen on Wednesday, but freed on Friday by their captors, the police said.
It is unclear if a ransom was paid for their release.
Confirming the development, Friday, Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the release of the abducted workers was due to the huge pressure mounted on the kidnappers.
The Police PRO, who had earlier disclosed the deployment of a combined team of Anti-Kidnapping and SWAT, in their search for the victims, stated that the manhunt for the kidnappers had continued unabated, prompting the kidnappers to release their victims.
“Yes. We mounted a lot of pressure on the kidnappers. Since yesterday (Thursday) our anti-kidnapping and SWAT operatives have been in the bush searching for them.
“They were able to trace them to the bush behind Day Waterman College. They have been there since yesterday.
“This evening, they released them unhurt without any ransom.”
The workers were reportedly abducted by gunmen on Wednesday, September 8 in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
It would be recalled that the state Police Command had confirmed the abduction of three senior workers of former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, at the Seseri village in the state.
Police said the incident occurred on Wednesday, adding that the three workers of the Obasanjo Holdings were kidnapped Wednesday afternoon from the workplace.
The gunmen were said to have ambushed the three workers at the Obasanjo Holdings in Kobape in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.
State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, while confirming the incident, said: “It happened today (Wednesday) around 6pm . There is Obasanjo Farm around the area in Kobape.
A source said the workers abducted included; the Financial Controller, Group Auditor and Group Store Manager of the firm.
The source said: “They were abducted around 4pm at Seseri village after their Hilux car was shot at by the gunmen, who took them away.
