Tinubu not ‘my president,’ Pastor Bakare
Former Presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has declared that he will address President-elect, Bola Tinubu as ‘President of Nigeria,’ but not as ‘My President.’
Asiwaju Tinubu is expected to be sworn-in, Monday, May 29 after emerging president-elect in the disputed February 25 election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Pastor Bakare has previously maintained that Tinubu is not fit to be recognised as president of Nigeria on moral grounds.
Speaking, Saturday, during a virtual seminar titled; ‘Building the New Nigeria: The Role of the Diaspora,’ organised by the PTB4Nigeria, a Diaspora group, the cleric restated that he will address Tinubu ‘as a President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but I will never call him my president.’
Responding on a question on whether he will open to working with the new government in the capacity of a Minister of Diaspora Engagements, Bakare replied: “Any public lecture anywhere, before this mess is cleared off, I will address Asiwaju (Tinubu) as a President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but I will never call him my president.”
“Last Wednesday, I was at the Glass House where he (Buhari) has been restricted now because the main house is being renovated.
“I said I have done that for you. I want you to know that, because of the circumstances of your flying into power on the wings of integrity and incorruptibility, but you’re now passing onto someone who does not have that value.
“Any public lecture anywhere, before this mess is cleared off, I will address Asiwaju (Tinubu) as a President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but I will never call him my president.”
Tinubu is set to become the 16th President of Nigeria from May after his inauguration as opposition political parties continue their petitions at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), which resumes full hearing on May 30, this year after conclusion of three weeks of pre-hearing.
