Tinubu, Shettima, 28 state governors sworn-in, as Buhari ends 8yrs in office, retires to Daura
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken his Oath of Office as the 16th President of Nigeria, just as Vice President, Kashim Shettima also did same at the Eagle Square, Monday morning, in Abuja.
Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola administered the oath of office to the new President, before doing same to the new Vice President Kashim Shettima minutes later.
The two had won the Presidential election conducted on February 25 with over eight million votes, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after a heavily disputed election.
Meanwhile, immediate past Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari is on his way to Daura, his hometown, in Katsina State.
He departed the Eagle Square immediately after handing over power to Tinubu.
The inauguration was witnessed by many foreign and local dignitaries, African leaders and former Nigerian leaders.
Similarly, 28 States are expected to hold their inauguration today, including; Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara, where new governors emerged at the March 11 and April supplementary elections.
Already, the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has taken his oath of office. The Governor won the last election in the State and was re-elected for a second tenure, while all is set for the Swearing-in of the Governor-elect of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani.
Dignitaries are all seated at the Murtala Mohammed Square, awaiting the arrival of the Governor-elect and the outgoing Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
In Lagos, the 2nd term inauguration of the Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy Dr Kadiri Hamzat is currently ongoing at the Tafawa Balewa Square Onikan.
Lagos residents attend the events in thousands to celebrate the 15th Governor of the State.
Despite the heavy down pour the Governor inspected the guard of honor as he exchange pleasantries from the crowd.
