For the one billion dollar breakup fee tied to the acquisition deal between Elon Musk and Twitter, the transaction would have crumbled. And former President Donald Trump of United States warns that it is still a bad deal for the Tesla CEO.
Tech investor and successful celebrity billionaire, Elon Musk, halted his highly hyped acquisition of world’s most popular social media platform, Twitter, calling for detailed due diligence on the credibility of accounts on the platform.
Elon Musk popularly perceived to have the Midas touch on businesses had sparked interests in the equities of Twitter with declaration of princely $44 billion bid for controlling stake in the company which now operates world’s most credible and responsible social media accounts.
Elon Musk who is also world’s richest man and most controversial businessman announced weekend that his transaction to acquire Twitter has been put on hold in order to verify allegations that significant population of account holders on the platform are spammers or bots.
He said that the $44 billion deal was on hold until he could verify that fake accounts represent less than 5% of users. “To find out, my team will do a random sample of 100 followers of @twitter,” Musk said in a tweet
Musk said in a tweet that he plans to conduct his research to determine the amount of Twitter users that are bots before his purchase of the social media platform goes ahead.
Former President Donald Trump whose account was suspended by Twitter agreed with Elon Musk, saying that it would be ridiculous invest whopping $44 billion in a platform with significant population of fake accounts.
Donald Trump, equally controversial, enjoys Elon Musk’s sympathy and political views. Musk had condemned suspension of the former president’s Twitter account and has promised to restore it after seizing control of the company.
Musk said this week that he would reinstate Trump’s account once he owns Twitter, calling the decision to ban him a “morally bad decision.” Trump has previously said that he would not rejoin if his account were reinstated.
However, Trump whom has floated Truth Social to air his views says he would not retur to Twitter even if his account were restored.
In discouraging Elon Musk to review his acquisition of Twitter, Trump posted on his Truth Social that he believes Musk will not go ahead with his Twitter purchase.
“There is no way Elon Musk is going to buy Twitter at such a ridiculous price, especially since realizing it is a company largely based on BOTS or Spam Accounts,” Trump wrote.
Trump addressed the spam account concern in his Truth Social post. He wrote, “By the time you get rid of them, if that can even be done, what do you have? Not much?”
The former president went on to say that “Elon would have already been long done” if it wasn’t for the breakup fee.
Musk and Twitter have signed an agreement that includes a $1 billion break fee payable by the Tesla CEO if he walks away.
“Just my opinion, but Truth Social is MUCH better than Twitter and is absolutely exploding, incredible engagement,” Trump wrote on his social media platform.
