Waste management: Abia extends closing date for submission of bids
From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
The Taskforce on the Clean-up of Aba and Umuahia has extended the deadline for submission of Bids for the Expression of Interest in waste management in Abia State.
The Head, Emergency Clean-up of Aba and Umuahia, Ogbonnia Okereke, who made the announcement in Umuahia attributed the extension to the two-day Public Holidays declared by the Federal Government on 28 and 29 June, 2023 to enable the Moslem faithful to observe the Eid-El-Kabir festival.
“Due to the two-day Public Holidays declared by the Federal Government on 28 and 29 June, the period for the submission of Bids for the Private Sector Participants (PSP) in the provision of waste management services in the State has consequently been extended.
“The last day for the submission is now Friday, July 7, 2023 by 3 p.m. Bids will be opened on Tuesday, July 11, 2023,” Okereke added.
Recall that at his inauguration on May 29, 2023, Governor Alex Otti had declared an emergency on waste management in the state. Few days after appointing Okereke to head the Emergency Clean-up Task force team, Otti defied the heavy downpour in Aba to launch the war against filth in the state by personally supervising waste disposal in the commercial city.
