Following up on his declaration as a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant in the November 6 governorship election, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, has started a tour of local government areas of the state.
In the Idemili North LGA on Wednesday, where party leaders gathered with stalwarts from Anambra North and Anambra South senatorial districts, at a reception at Paradise Regained Hotel, Ogidi, Okonkwo noted that Anambra wasn’t looking for just a good leader.
Urging the party leaders to stay focused and run with who has the capacity to win the election, he said that “obviously every aspirant in the race so far is good, but Anambra is no longer looking for a good leader.
“We have the good, we have the better, we have the best. But what we need is the best of the best.
“I am the best of the best and that is why the plot is on how to thwart this movement. But that won’t happen.”
The Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines and The Dome Entertainment Center, in Abuja, Okonkwo reminded the stakeholders that he will be guided by his 10-Point development agenda for the state.
He noted that Anambra has grown past unfulfilled promises, and that all his plans for the state are worked out as they were drawn from the needs of the state and not for campaigning.
He warned the leaders to be wary of fair-weather politicians who he said only seek to reap where they did not sow.
“I assure you that if you give me the ticket, I will make sure that PDP returns to Government House Awka in such a manner that even our opponents will confess that we beat them squarely and fairly,” he said.
A party chieftain, Chief Williams Obiora told the delegates that they have the power to re-write the story of PDP in Anambra and that they should be mindful how they use the power.
Former Deputy Chairman of Aguata LGA, Ezeafulukwe Chukwuma, warned the delegates to be vigilant against the antics of those who want to rupture the peace in the party.
According to him, Okonkwo’s aspiration has altered the script of some erstwhile godfathers who might still want to destabilize the party and stop its march to the Government House.
He told them, “be vigilant. They have come back with their normal antics. They want to trade with me and I. But they will fail. We must not allow them to have their way this time.”
