Why senate postponed valedictory session of 9th Assembly – Lawan
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has explained the decision to postpone the planned valedictory session of the 9th Assembly of the Upper Chambers earlier fixed for Thursday to a new date of Saturday, June 10.

The Lower Chamber, House of Representatives had, Wednesday, held its valedictory session as Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, who now moves to occupy a new position as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, presided over the final session of the 9th assembly.
However, senate, instead Wednesday, announced rescheduling its own valedictory session from the planned Thursday to Saturday.
Lawan had announced on Tuesday that the Upper Chamber would hold its valedictory session on Thursday.
Speaking to members of the Senate Press Corps, Wednesday afternoon, Lawan explained that the shift in the date was due to a scheduled meeting of President Tinubu with the lawmakers of the incoming 10th National Assembly fixed for Thursday, June 10.
The Senate held plenary on Tuesday as well as on Wednesday.
“By the grace of God, we will still hold plenary tomorrow (Thursday) and then our valedictory session will be on Saturday
“It is because tomorrow, Mr President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be meeting with the Senators-elect and members-elect at 2pm.
“And we believe that a session as significant and as important and as historical and memorable as valedictory session of the Senate requires a whole day. Not one, two, three hours. And therefore we push it to Saturday,” Lawan said.
The 9th Senate officially ends its four-year tenure on June 11, 2023.
Lawan further hinted that the 10th Senate would be inaugurated, Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
