About 50 indigent widows in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State have benefited from the financial seed support under the Widows Support Programme of the member representing Umunneochi State constituency, Hon. Barr. Okey Igwe.
Also, over 100 persons were given COVID-19 vaccines during the programme held at the Nkwoagu headquarters of the local government, Thursday.
Igwe initiated the Widows Support Programme through which he financially lifts indigent widows during his tenure as Executive Chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area and has sustained it even after his emergence as the lawmaker representing Umunneochi State Constituency in 2019.
The money is meant to assist beneficiaries in their petty trading.
Thursday’s edition of the programme was a double event as the lawmaker facilitated COVID-19 vaccination of his constituents numbering over 100.
Addressing the people, Igwe stressed the need for them to take the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as observe all the health safety protocols in their day-to-day activities for them to remain healthy.
He reassured his constituents of his commitment towards improving the lives of indigents and widows in the society.
The lawmaker thanked the widows for their prayers for him, which, he said, was contributing to his political progression and wellbeing.
The event which featured prayers for Hon. Okey Igwe, was graced by top politicians from the area, including the current Executive Chairman of Umunneochi LGA, Chief Ifeanyi Madu, represented by Secretary to the Local government, Onyekachi Ubah, Chairman of Umunneochi LGA chapter of PDP, Elder Richard Abadago, and several aides to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
