WIEN takes gender debate to SAIPEC 2023
Nigeria’s frontline gender right advocacy group, Women in Energy Network (WiEN), will from Wednesday in Lagos begin its arguments on gender inclusivity, equity and capacity optimization at the ongoing Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Conference (SAIPEC).
The women rights group hosting professionals, investors and sundry workers form part of the industry groups that stage policy debates at the continental summit hosted by the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) which also promotes indigenous industry capacity.
The conference which holds at the main convention center of the Eko Hotels and Suites pools delegates from all hydrocarbon provinces in the continent; bringing to strategy table African and multinational energy companies, regulators, policy drivers and industry leaders to shape the fate and future of the petroleum industry in the continent in the era of energy transition.
In yielding to the criticality of the role of women professionals in advancing the growth of the industry and economies of African nations, the organizers of the event, Global Event Partners Limited has offered free registration for visitors to attend the session on “Diversity, Equality and Inclusion” slated for February 16.
The session which will launch full gender equity and capacity advocacy at the event seeks to move the hands of the African policy makers to implement the fifth United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which emphasizes gender equity.
SAIPEC’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion session is expected to provide the platform for WiEN’s finest minds to convene, connect with diverse audiences and put forward solutions towards building a diverse and inclusive oil and gas industry.
President of WIEN, Mrs Funmi Ogbue, declares that the group’s advocacy targets to assist in the advancement of rapid economic and social development of African countries by optimizing full and all gender capacity in driving productivity.
She argues that eminently qualified women are yet to access the opportunity to deliver their contributions to advancement of industry, corporate, social and political governance due to bias associated with traditional gender role partitions.
The diversity session of SAIPEC will feature six members of WIEN, including its President Mrs. Ogbue, who are expected to speak on how to accelerate the pace of development in Africa’s energy sector and socio-economic development of the continent through enhanced gender diversity.
WiEN’s advocacy at SAIPEC is targeted to resonate beyond countries of the continent from where delegations, speakers and organizations are in attendance.
