WTO: DG Okonjo-Iweala, DDG Ellard meet US Congressional delegation

Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Deputy Director-General Angela Ellard welcomed a visiting bipartisan delegation of 28 members from the US House of Representatives on 6 August, one of the largest Congressional delegations to visit the WTO. During the visit, they exchanged views on the important role of the United States in the WTO, current trade challenges, and key issues on the organization’s negotiating agenda, including WTO reform.
“It was great to engage with the Representatives, to understand better the concerns of their constituents, and to brief them on the challenges and opportunities facing the organization and global trade,” DG Okonjo-Iweala said. “The dialogue was constructive and a welcome sign of USA leadership and engagement with the WTO.”
The non-official visit was organized under the TransAtlantic Capital to Capital Exchange programme with the Ripon Society and Franklin Center for Global Policy Exchange.
