2023 budget passage delayed due to irregularities – Senate
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has explained why the Upper Chambers of the National Assembly decided to shift passage of the 2023 Appropriation Bill to next Wednesday due to irregularities noticed in the document.
Senator Lawan who gave the explanation, Thursday, while addressing other lawmakers, said the Bill came to the National Assembly with some irregularities which both chambers needed to address before passing.
According to Lawan, document the budget would not be passed because they were not able to receive the correct report of the Committee on Appropriation.
It would be recalled that the senate had earlier announced that the 2023 Appropriation Bill would be passed before the chamber adjourned for Christmas recess on Thursday, December 22, 2022.
Lawan further explained that since both Monday and Tuesday were declared as public holidays for the Christmas celebrations, the report of the committee could only be received for consideration on Wednesday, the 28th December, 2022.
