2023: Abia deserves selfless leader – Omerekpe
From Boniface Okoro, Umuahia
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship aspirant in Abia State, Chief Ncheta Elvis Omerekpe, says the state needs a selfless leader in 2023 because of the developmental challenges facing the state.
Speaking during his consultation with party stakeholders from Ukwa East, Ukwa West and Ugwunagbo local government areas, all in Abia South Senatorial Zone, the Governorship aspirant who is the founder of Ncheta Omerekpe Foundation (NOF) promised to fix Abia, particularly Aba, in two years if people of the state would give him their mandate.
Omerekpe said Abia state has witnessed a lot of developmental challenges, hence, the need to enthrone a positive and selfless leader, who can bring the desired change.
The aspirant promised to properly harness the resources of Abia, especially Ukwa as an oil producing area. He noted that Ukwa has been short changed and marginalized sufficiently that they should revolt and fight for the enthronement of good leadership in the state that would accord them their due share of the resources from their land.
He assured that Abia State Oil Producing Areas Developmen Commission (ASOPADEC) would be made to function in line with its mandate.
Omerekpe revealed that for the past five years, he has spent over N5 billion social services such as road constructions, empowerment, medical outreaches, scholarships, among others to better the lives of Abians, adding that he would only step down for any PDP governorship aspirant who can boast of spending one third of his personal fund on Abia, in comparison to what he (Omerekpe) has expended on improving the lives of Abians, as well as contributing to the development of the state.
Noting that the fate of all aspirants rests with delegates, Omerekpe urged them to vote during the primary election according to their conscience and shun any form of financial inducement.
“The business of primaries is a very critical one and, therefore, should not be toyed with. Whatever they give to you, collect it because it is your money, but ensure you vote your conscience. Vote in people that have the sincerity and commitment to serve you better,” Omerekpe advised the would-be delegates.
