‘Umahi never demanded N2bn to make me governor,’ RMAFC boss clarifies

Chairman Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Chief Elias Mbam has stated that Governor David Umahi never demanded money to make him Governor of Ebonyi State in 2023.
Mbam made the clarification on Tuesday following the rumor making the round on the social media alleging that Governor Umahi demanded N2 billion from him as a condition to make him Governor.
A statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Obinna Udenwe, said at no time whatsoever did Governor Umahi make such demand of Mbam nor had any such discussion taken place anywhere.
The statement advised the general public to ignore and disregard the malicious and defaming statement.
“The attention of the Chairman, Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Engr. Elias Mbam has been drawn to a mischievous and scandalous message posted on Facebook by one Mr. Ikenna F. Nwogbaga with the above referred title, on Sunday, 1st August 2021, alleging that the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dr. David Umahi FNSE, FNATE demanded the sum of Two Billion Naira ‘as condition to support the 2023 guber ambition of Engr. Mbam’.
“Engr. Elias Mbam wishes to unequivocally posit that at no time whatsoever did His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dr. David Umahi make such demand of him nor has any such discussion been held anywhere, at any time.
“The general public is indeed advised to please ignore and disregard the malicious and defaming statement from Mr. Ikenna F. Nwogbaga, whoever he is, as he is only out to seek cheap publicity.
“That at this time when our society is faced with high level of insecurity mostly arising from fake news and the dissemination of malicious information, people like Mr. Ikenna Nwogbaga should know that they would be held accountable for the resultant effect of their lies and deceits.
“Mr. Ikenna F. Nwogbaga is advised to pull down his Facebook Post immediately and cause it to be removed from any other platform where he may have posted them.
“Accordingly, Mr. Nwogbaga is advised to apologize to the Governor of Ebonyi State and Engr. Elias Mbam for dragging their hard earned reputation to the mud,” the statement read.
Mbam, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is one of the Ebonyi politicians preparing to contest the 2023 governorship seat of the State.
