Abia gets new Head of Service

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the appointment of Mr. Benson Ojeikere as the New Head of Service for Abia State Civil Service.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu in Umuahia on Monday, December 23, 2024.
According to the statement, Mr. Benson Ojeikere emerged after a rigorous selection process and would assume duty on December 31, 2024.
“Following the conclusion of a rigorous merit-based selection process, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has approved the appointment of Mr. Benson Ojeikere as the New Head of Service for Abia State Civil Service. This appointment takes effect from December 31, 2024,” the state ment read in part.
Mr Ojeikere would be succeeding, Dr. Ngozi Queen Obioma, as the third Head of Service under the Dr. Alex Otti-led administration which came to power on May 29, 2023.
After suspending a former Head of Service, Mr Onyii Wamah, and majority of the Permanent Secretaries shortly after assuming office, Governor Otti appointed Lady Joy Maduka, a Deputy Director, as the Acting Head of Service in late June 2023. Lady Maduka was later sent on compulsory retirement after she had been replaced with Dr. Ngozi Queen Obioma in December that year.
Last week, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okay Kanu, told journalists during a post-State Executive Council meeting media briefing that the incumbent Head of Service would be proceeding on retirement by the end of this year.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Governor, during the EXCO meeting, commended Dr Obioma for the quality service she has rendered to the state and wished her well.
