Equity investors gain N28.61bn as NGXASI advances marginally by 0.05%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on Monday by 0.05% as the NGX-ASI increased to 98,176.58 from 98,125.73 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.30%
Market capitalization increased by N28.61 billion to N55.536 trillion from N55.508 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, while the market turnover decreased to N6.689 billion from N9.419 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 405,661,682 shares in 8,439 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 6,688,725,461.93, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, May 17), today’s data shows 188% improvement in volume, 29% decline in turnover, but 22% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.5 trillion.
In the aggregate, 124 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 13 gainers and 29 losers. McNichols led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.10 per share, followed by Berger Paints (+9.72%), Regency Alliance Insurance (+9.68%) and Wapic Insurance (+6.15%). On the losing side, Champion Breweries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 2.97 per share, followed by C&I Leasing (-9.8%), Sovereign Trust Insurance (-9.76%) and Chams (-9.64%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 201 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (38.2m), Zenith Bank (15.3m) and Nigerian Breweries (13.7m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 50.85 (0.05%) points to close at 98,176.58, representing a 1-week gain of 0.48%, a 4-week loss of 1.37%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 31.3%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.07%; +0.53% 1WK; +30.3% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.28%; -0.26% 1WK; +34% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0%; +0.02% 1WK; +72.98% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; -0.63% 1WK; +12.93% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (-0.03%; -0.99% 1WK; +36.24% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (-0.09%; +0.96% 1WK; +32.88% YTD).
