Equity investors gain N62.03bn as NGXASI advances by 0.11%
Nigeria’s equities market closed positive Tuesday as the NGX-ASI increased to 100,075.59 from 99,966.28 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +33.84%.
Market capitalization also increased by N62.03 billion to N56.670 trillion from N56.608 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, the market turnover increased to N7.425 billion from N7.368 billion.
At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 368,392,413 shares in 8,151 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,424,729,101.16, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Monday, July 15), today’s data shows 2% improvement in volume but 3% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 18 gainers and 16 losers. United Capital led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 33.00 per share, followed by Cutix (+9.84%), Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+7.75%) and Cornerstone Insurance Company (+7.69%).
On the losing side, Red Star Express came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.82% at NGN 3.95 per share, followed by McNichols (-9.01%), Deap Capital Management & Trust (-5.77%) and AXA Mansard Insurance (-4.59%). Zenith Bank recorded the highest volume of 57.4 million traded shares, followed by Access Holdings (36.7m), Guaranty Trust Holding (29.2m) and Jaiz Bank (28.3m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 109.31 (0.11%) points to close at 100,075.59, representing a 1-week gain of 0.27%, a 4-week gain of 0.15%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 33.84%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.09%; +0.25% 1WK; +32.57% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.67%; -0.7% 1WK; +23.37% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.61%; +1.48% 1WK; -4.06% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.34%; +0.74% 1WK; +16.61% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.25%; +0.52% 1WK; +36.29% YTD), and NGX Industrial Index (+0.07%; +0.05% 1WK; +73.69% YTD).
