Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Wednesday  by 1.20% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 98,121.30 from 99,311.54 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +31.22%

Market capitalization decreased  by N673.16 billion to N55,494.25 trillion from N56,167.40 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover increased to N9.576 billion from N7.842 billion.

At the end of today’s trading session , a total of 395,751,156 shares in 7,907 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 9,576,080,749.21, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, April 23), today’s data shows 13% decline in volume, 32% improvement in turnover, and 8% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.5 trillion.

In the aggregate, 120 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 22 gainers and 20 losers. Neimeth International Pharma led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 1.98 per share, followed by The Initiates (+10%), Sunu Assurances Nigeria (+10%) and CAP (+9.9%). On the losing side, MTN Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 201.60 per share, followed by Transcorp Hotels (-10%), Oando (-9.9%) and FBN Holdings (-9.82%). Guaranty Trust Holding recorded the highest volume of 81.4 million traded shares, followed by Zenith Bank (46.2m), United Bank for Africa (41.6m) and FBN Holdings (23.4m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined 1,190.24 (-1.20%) points to close at 98,121.30, representing a 1-week loss of 1.79%, a 4-week loss of 5.88%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 31.22%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-1.4%; -1.81% 1WK; +30.22% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.05%; -0.65% 1WK; +40.63% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (+0.02%; +0.38% 1WK; +73.45% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (-0.27%; +0.09% 1WK; +18.26% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.39%; -0.92% 1WK; +33.73% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (-0.83%; -5.82% 1WK; -14.29% YTD).
