Investors record N154.25 bn loss as NGX-ASI depreciates by 0.28%
Nigeria’s Equities Market closed negative on Monday by 0.28% as the NGX-ASI decreased to 97,879.94 from 98,152.91 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +30.90%
Market capitalization decreased today by N154.25 billion to N55,357.37 trillion from N55,511.62 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day, Also, the market turnover increased to N5.082 billion from N5.022 billion.
At the end of the first weekday of trading, a total of 277,241,355 shares in 8,714 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,082,969,863.47, were traded.
Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Friday, April 26), today’s data shows 5% improvement in volume, 1% improvement in turnover, and 32% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 55.4 trillion.
In the aggregate, 126 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 23 gainers and 23 losers. Sterling Bank led the gainers with 9.95% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.20 per share, followed by FBN Holdings (+9.83%), Honeywell Flour Mill (+9.4%) and Tantalizers (+9.09%).
On the losing side, Dangote Sugar Refinery came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 43.20 per share, followed by Secure Electronic Technology (-10%), CAP (-9.88%) and Berger Paints (-9.87%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 34.6 million traded shares, followed by The Initiates (25.6m), Transcorp Nigeria (19.4m) and Access Holdings (18.8m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 272.97 (-0.28%) points to close at 97,879.94, representing a 1-week loss of 1.79%, a 4-week loss of 6.01%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 30.9%.
Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.33%; -1.98% 1WK; +29.85% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.48%; -2.11% 1WK; +5.73% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+0.25%; -2.6% 1WK; +31.58% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.02%; +0.31% 1WK; +73.42% YTD), NGX Banking Index (-0.41%; -4.7% 1WK; -15.14% YTD), and NGX Main Board Index (-0.47%; -0.82% 1WK; +33.44% YTD).
