Police bursts child stealing syndicate, arrest one suspect in Enugu

Police Operatives of the Enugu State Command, serving in the Igbo-Eze North Police Division in conjunction with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, have bursted a child stealing syndicate and arrested one Ifeanyi Omeke, aged 21, at Igogoro Village in Enugu-Ezike community of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu state.
In a statement made available to journalists by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu in Enugu on Sunday, said suspect was nabbed on October 27, 2023, at about 1.30 p.m. after he sneaked into the complainant’s house in the mentioned community and attempted to steal a one-year, three-month-old girl child.
The Police boss said the suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he was contracted by his cohorts at large to steal children for ritual and other criminal purposes.
The Commissioner has therefore ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State CID for further thorough investigation that would lead to the arrest of other members of the criminal syndicate for prosecution
