Equities market investors gain N466.30bn as NGX-ASI increases by 0.83%

 Nigeria’s Equities Market closed positive on  Friday  by 0.83% as the NGX-ASI increased to 99,587.25 from 98,762.78 recorded at the close of the previous trading day; indicating a YTD return of +33.18%

The market performance for the week increased by 1.46% to 99,587.25 from 98,152.91 recorded at the beginning of the week.

 Market capitalization increased by N466.30 billion to N56.323 trillion from N55.856 trillion recorded at the close of the previous trading day. However, the market turnover increased to N7.10 billion from N5.54 billion.

At the end of the last weekday of trading, a total of 446,572,328 shares in 9,297 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 7,100,512,932.74, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, May 2), today’s data shows 33% decline in volume, 28% improvement in turnover, and 10% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 56.3 trillion.

In the aggregate, 125 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 29 gainers and 20 losers. Presco led the gainers with 9.96% share price appreciation closing at NGN 252.80 per share, followed by Dangote Sugar Refinery (+9.94%), Ellah Lakes (+9.93%) and Jaiz Bank (+9.81%).

On the losing side, Conoil came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 97.20 per share, followed by Tantalizers (-10%), McNichols (-9.52%) and Linkage Assurance (-9.47%). Access Holdings recorded the highest volume of 152 million traded shares, followed by Veritas Kapital Assurance (49.9m), United Bank for Africa (32.9m) and Universal Insurance Company (27.1m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moved up 824.47 (0.83%) points to close at 99,587.25, representing a 1-week gain of 1.44%, a 4-week loss of 4.76%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 33.18%.

Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.89%; +1.5% 1WK; +32.29% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+4.68%; +9.99% 1WK; -6.76% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+2.24%; +6.97% 1WK; +11.7% YTD), NGX Premium Index (+1.2%; +3.49% 1WK; +35.29% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.86%; +0.45% 1WK; +19.83% YTD), and NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.76%; -0.61% 1WK; +39.71% YTD).
